Meet the children who really believed in children's day!!!!

In Nigeria, the 27th of May has been set aside as the CHildren's day celebration day. School children especially anticipate this day. I recall my mother told of how they would carry Nigerian lags back in the  1960's and walk long distances by foot with their crisp uniforms and matching socks (stockings, which one is correct sef?) and they would compete with other schools in a match past competition.

Kids looked forward to this day. but in Adamawa state, the case was rather different, as i watched NTA broadcast the Oodua Children's day celebration, i could not help but feel pity for the kids of Adamawa state as the Commissioner for education announced that the day would not be celebrated in the usual style of march past at the Mahmud  Ribadu Square. But low key debates and quizzes will be held in various schools.

Not so outstanding considering kids who aint that quiz smart if you get what i mean. the thrill of basking in the sun amidst drums and colourful uniforms creates and adrenaline rush in the heart of these kids but they had their fun cut short with what was excused as the State of Emergency curfew.

seriously the curfew is for 7pm and these events end by 12 noon.

All the same, my attention was drawn to a group of kids who defied all odds to ensure that they made the best of the day.

Clad n their uniforms, the gathered at Ribadu square and held their mini march past parade. smiled and marched with all gusto. and went back home in one piece.

Question, did they see what the government did not see, did they believe what the government did not?

They just had the curiosity that went with their age but also stood up for what they believed was the only day dedicated to the.

I salute the courage of these kids. maybe they will be the peace bringers a few decades from now.

Happy children's day everyone.
