THE ORIGIN
The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) was the brain-child of a prayer circle here in Denmark in Aalborg formed in 1905.
The prayer group became the base for the formation of the Sudan United Mission Danish Branch in November 1911. The group sent Dr. Niels Hoegh Bronnum together with his wife Margaret and the nurse Ms. Dagmar Rose for mission work in the Sudan-belt in January 1913. In February they arrived in Nigeria and started the trip up the Niger River by steam-boat.
HER DEATH
In June of 1913 while resting and studying Hausa at the British Mission Station in Rumasha, Mrs. Margaret Bronnum died of malaria shortly after giving birth to their first-born son, Holger. Dr. Bronnum decided to press on alone, and arrived in Numan on the 29th September 1913. Upon reaching Numan he purchased a plot of land on which he founded his mission work.
THE PRESENT DAY
Recently, the devote members of the Lutheran Church of Christ in preparation for their centenary celebration have paid a visit to the grave site of Dr. Mrs. MArgaret Bronum who dies on 13th June, 1913 and according to sources was buried on 14th June, 1913n at Umaisha Nasarawa Province, now Nasarawa State.( Toto LGA) on 5th and 6th June for Memorial / Thanksgiving Service in commemoration of the LCCN Centenary Celebrations.

The LCCN has spread to far North-Katsina, Zamfara, Kano and in the west to Lagos, Ibadan and Benin. There is also a big mission field in Taraba State south of Adamawa State, where the church is starting administrative development.
According to the Official LUtheran site present membership of LCCN in 2013 is around 2,7 million people. The church which was started by one pastor, Dr. Niels H. Bronnum, now has a total number of 555 pastors with 8 Dioceses, 43 Divisions and 296 Districts.
